Marti Wenk Hause confirmed with the "county" that Kay died this year--she had been living for awhile in Ypsilanti with her family.  No obituary was published.

The Obituary of Lois Schiller Mitchell

Lois M. Mitchell of Ann Arbor, Michigan age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 24, 2015 at the University of Michigan hospital. She was born January 19, 1941 in Chelsea, MI the daughter of Alvin and Enid Faye (Bagge) Schiller. Lois was the oldest of six siblings, and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. She was best known for her quick wit, artistry, and kind heart. Lois had a talent and a passion for sewing that she lovingly shared with family and friends. A gathering of friends and family will take place at the Staffan Mitchell Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 5-8 p.m.

Willard Byron "Barnie" Pearson

Willard Byron “Barnie” Pearson, of Roscommon, Michigan, age 74, died August 4, 2015, at his home.
A memorial service and celebration was held on Friday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Roscommon. Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, handled arrangements.
Born October 13, 1940, in Chelsea, to Willard DeRoy and Juanita Faye (Blackford) Pearson, he began his musical training at an early age. Following graduation from Chelsea High School in 1958, he attended the University of Michigan where he was a member of the Symphony Band which represented the United States on a 15-week goodwill tour of Russia and the Middle East on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. He left the University of Michigan in 1962 and joined the Marine Corps, where he became a member of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band where he was a featured soloist and first trumpet in the White House Orchestra performing for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. After discharge from the Marine Corps in 1966, he held several positions with the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony. He also performed with other groups including the Ohio Chamber Orchestra and the Metropolitan Brass Quintet. Mr. Pearson continued his education at the University of Michigan from 1975 to 1978, completing his undergraduate degree as well as the Master of Music degree in performance and the course work for his Doctorate of Music degree. From 1979 until he retired in 1997, he was a professor at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio and was later appointed Emeritus Professor of Trumpet. Following his retirement, he moved to Roscommon County where he was able to pursue his favorite pastimes of hunting, fishing and competitive trapshooting. In 2011, on the 50th anniversary of the Russian Tour, he was inducted into the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Grayling Sportsman’s Club, Michigan Trapshooting Association, Amateur Trapshooting Association and National Rifle Association. He was also a past member of the Masons, American Federation of Musicians and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 3201, Houghton Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Alice. Surviving are his fiancée, Julie J. Chambers of Roscommon; son, James Gilbert Pearson of Glendale, CA; daughter, Catherine J. Pearson of Springfield, MO; two grandsons, Aaron and Noah Pearson; sister, Elaine White of Hale; and a life-long friend, James Grau of Chelsea.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance Alumni Society or the American Diabetes Association.

We're having lunch this year at the beautifully restored Grass Lake Depot in the heart of downtown Grass Lake on Sunday, August 30, 2015. Perhaps it's been on your bucket list, so write the place, date, and time down now!  Doors will be opening at 1 pm for our catered lunch. Price TBD depending on how many come--somewhere between $10-$15.

We'll provide coffee and iced tea, but if you wish anything else—BYOB. Seriously. Attached is a picture of the sweet, stone depot.

Memorial Service Details

The memorial service for Byron will be held in the First Congregational Church on August 28 at 11 a.m. in Roscommon, MI.  Address of the church is:109 South Main Street.

If an obituary is published, it most likely will be in the Houghton Lake Resorter.  Byron died of a heart attack in his recliner Friday, July 31st.

More sad news

Byron was found dead today in his recliner.  Jim Grau had been telling Sandy and me that Byron was feeling better in the last few years, and they were thinking of going back up to Canada next year to fish.

Arrangements are uncertain at this time, but I will post them as soon as they are known.

Obituary of Ron Borders

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 76, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at his home. He was born May 23, 1939 in Ashland, KY , the son of Eltia & Anna (Roark) Borders Sr.

  Ron was a member of the Chelsea High School class of 1958.  He worked at Chelsea Milling for 42 years.  Ron liked woodworking, was an avid gun collector and shot on a pistol team.  He was a member of the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club.
 On September 6, 1958, he married Patricia Dvorak, and she survives. Other survivors include a brother, Eltia (Debra) Borders of Chelsea; a sister, Sheila (Byron) Gay of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Borders, and his parents.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 16, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.  Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea.  The family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea Area Historical Society.
