The Chelsea District Library, Chelsea Senior Center, and Chelsea Area Historic Society have a grant from the Chelsea Community Foundation to document activities of the rural one room schools in the area. I went to Reimenschneider (sp??) School near Cavanaugh Lake for kindergarten but that was all. My biggest recollection of that is walking past the very scary cows and marsh (where I thought Briar Rabbit lived) on my way to school.
I know that Doug Collyer went there longer. I believe several in our class had longer careers in one room school houses.
If you would like to participate in this effort to document history, please contact Tina Patterson and/or Kay Heller at the Chelsea Senior Center: 734 475 9242 or by email at: chelseaseniors@aol.com .
Just think, we're history!

I remember going to 'Savage School' when I was In the in the third or forth grade. Mrs. Eisle was the teacher. I think we went two years because of over crowding. We were transported out to the school in the morning and returned at 3:00 PM by school bus. Does anyone remember this?
Kay Kuhl, Jim Grau, Doug Stark and I graduated from 8th grade at Rogers Corners School. Kay, Jim and I started Kindergarten there so enjoyed 9 years in the one room school. All but 8th grade we had the same teacher also. My sister Irene spent most of her school years as the only person in her grade.
I gave the One Room School House Project the names of Jim Grau and John Eisenbeiser. Kay, would you like to be interviewed? If so, perhaps you could call the Senior Citizens Center (yikes!)and volunteer to be interviewed since you're nearby.
Perhaqps that is why I'm retarted.

Why don't you rural school kids call the number I listed and set up an "interview"? They're looking for stories, and I'm sure you have some!
I've been reluctant to respond because I liked the school when Leona Beeman was there and hated it when Ruth C Carter was there.
In the Fifth Grade, I got to go to school in town and "loved" Miss Henderson and school again.
