Class gathering for 2017 lunch!

Hello, CHS Class of '58ers!

We're looking forward to a class gathering on Saturday, September 23, at Reddeman Farms at 555 South Dancer Road--right off Jackson Road.  Since they don't open until 2 pm, we think getting together about 2 pm would give us a "happy hour" and late lunch or early dinner!  There is no UM football game that weekend, so we don't need to worry about traffic.

Those of us who gathered last year enjoyed a visit to the Chelsea Area Historical Society Museum on Jackson Street across from the Depot.  The Society is in a capital campaign in order to help pay down the mortgage on the building.  If you're interested in seeing what's underway, go to:  chelseahistory.org   We would like to make a class donation to this effort, so please keep that in mind.  (If you wish, an individual donation could be made on the website.)

Speaking of class efforts, we were able to plant a white pine as a part of the Alumni Arbor Day Project at the current high school in April.  The tree is identified with a tag, so it is possible to visit it if you wish.

Please let us know of your intention to attend the class lunch on September 23, your willingness to be a part of the class donation to the Museum, and interest in visiting the class tree.

Staying in touch at this time of our lives is indeed a special opportunity.

A White Pine will be planted in honor of our class

Sandy and I went to the Arbor Club meeting last night and put the money down on a White Pine.  This is a very ambitious project and we were happy to be able to participate.  

Thanks to Dave K, Ed Mc, Marti, Jim Grau, who added $$ to that donated by Sandy and me.  

This will be a community event, sustainable, and well planned.  It's more inspiring than I ever imagined!  

If you are local and interested in participating on the day of the planting (no, you don't have to dig a hole), let me know.  The planting date is May 6 with a back-up date of May 7.  I would let you know what time to come to the high school.  Our tree will have a tag with the year of our class on it.

 

CHS Alumni Arbor project....please read and reply

OK...here's the full scoop.  We are "registered" as Class of 1958.  After going to the sites listed below, here are the really big questions:

1.  Do we want to play?

2.  If so, who will chip in $?  please let me (janbernath@yahoo.com) or Sandy know by the end of February.  

3.  If you're playing, how much $ are you willing to donate?

That will determine the tree we select in the $30 to $300 range.
4.  Does anyone have ideas to contribute to the master plan?  (Where's John when you need him?)

We are estimated that trees will cost $30-300 depending on the type and size that your class chooses. We will email you by the end of March to let you know what type of trees you may choose from for your location. Please talk with your classmates and see if anyone has any ideas to contribute to the master plan for the Alumni Arbor - we are taking ideas from the public through February.

February: CHS Graduates connect with the Arbor Club via the survey above. Ideas are gathered to share with our landscape architect. Arbor Club students will post planting information around Chelsea.

March: Arbor Club will email individual classes and share details on the planting.

April: Individual classes will select and purchase their chosen tree.

May 6, 2017, 10 am – 4 pm: CHS graduates come out to plant their tree!

Thank you for the information you shared about the history of Chelsea Schools. My students and I are planting an Alumni Arbor on May 6th, and we will be seeking to contact all previously graduated classes of CHS to come plant a tree on that date. I noticed from your email with Bill O'Reilly that you graduated in 1958 and that you maintain a blogspot. Do you have a link that you could share with me for your blogspot? Also, are you in contact with any other graduated classes? Do you have any ideas for the best ways to connect with class leaders?

We have created a Facebook page and survey links to connect with classes, and we will be launching these links via Chelsea Update, mLive, and flyers/signs throughout Chelsea beginning February 1st. I hope that you'll be there on May 6th to represent the class of 1958!

CHS Class of 1958 had their 58th Class Reunion on Saturday, 17th, and visited the CAHS Museum!

The class of '58 enjoyed visiting the CAHS Museum and chatted about what they knew about “old” Chelsea. Some interesting stories!

The first  picture below shows those who visited the Museum seated in the Time Line room with classmate Jim Grau holding a donated ax used by the Chelsea Fire Department in the early 1900s. Classmate Troy Lewis was the donor of the ax, but he was unable to attend the reunion..
 

The second picture  are the “village students” which is actually displayed in the Time Line Room of the Museum. Students who attended country schools and St. Mary School joined the class in 9^th grade to attend high school.

Class lunch scheduled for September 17

Hello, Classmates!

This year's class lunch has been scheduled for Sat, September 17.  We plan to meet at the Chelsea (not Common) Grill at 1 pm....on the southwest corner of M52 and old US12.

We have a permanent Chelsea Museum across from the depot, and we can visit it for a tour at 3 pm.  In case you're curious, click on:  http://chelseahistory.org/

Please plan to join us for the afternoon....if you can't come, consider becoming a member (it's cheap) of the Museum by going to the website.  Or, just make a contribution!  This is newly reshuffled Board and the organization has a mortgage!

Bill Sorensen came to Chelsea a few weeks ago to attend the funeral of King Hannah.  On his way, he went through Jackson and stopped to visit Jim Buck.  There he learned that Jim had died a few years ago.  Thanks, Bill, for your thoughtfulness.
