CHS Class of '58ers--Heads up!!

Sandy and Jan(et) are beginning to work on the 55th class reunion!  We now have the dates of the home football games and will plan around those.  We would be interested in your ideas for activities you would enjoy while here in Chelsea for the reunion.

Thusfar, we have identified a trip to the football game; post game eats and drinks and Jim Grau's house; dinner somewhere.  Your ideas??

The dates available for the reunion are:  weekend of 8-30; 9-13; 9-27; or 10-4.  We'd like to "shoot for" 9-13.

Please communicate your ideas  to Sandy at 734 475 8862 or sandrakayweber58@yahoo.com or Jan(et) at 734 475 5752 or janbernath@yahoo.com .  Additionally, if you have new contact information, please let us know.

Co-executive decision

Hello there, Class of '58ers--
Sandy and Jan (et) met on Sandy's porch the other day.  They decided to "skip this year of fall gathering"... Whadyathink?

Since next year will be the 55th class reunion, they thought energies would be better spent there.  They like the idea of a mid-September time in 2013.

They invite your ideas of how you would like to spend this time together....How long?  Dinner only?  3 days?  What activities you would enjoy, etc.

Of course, they'll try to find a Friday night football game to include if it's important to you.  Let them hear from you, okay?

Our famous classmate, Byron Pearson

Byron (watch my lips) Pearson found himself in the middle of the UM stadium at half time of the 2011 Homecoming Game. Can you find him? He was being honored with the rest of the UM band members who went to Russia 50 years ago. In addition to being presented during the half, the members also took their places in the UM Hall of Fame. Good going, Barnie! But, who's the blond?

A night at Knight's

While some folks enjoyed the pig roast at Tom Dault's, others enjoyed slabs of beef at Knight's in Ann Arbor (except for Elaine Pastor who had shrimp). Those around the table on Saturday were:

Jim Grau and Judy; Bryon Pearson and Julie; Dave and Elaine Pastor; Sandy, John, and the blogger. Only two paid with cash. Who were they?

(No pictures were taken.)

From our English teacher, Dave Knisely...

Dave went out to the Coney Island Restaurant to meet 1958 classmates for breakfast on Saturday, September 24. 'Seems that Dave was following the schedule of meeting at 9 a.m. Dave & Elaine Pastor, Byron, Julie, and Jim Grau interpreted 9 a.m. to be 9:15 a.m., so they thought they might be just fine if they showed up at 9:45 a.m. "just slightly late." (Does this sound like the Jim you know?)

After Dave Knisely left, he seized the opportunity to display his humor in the following poetry:

ONE IS THE LONLIEST NUMBER
To Coney Island Restaurant; don’t want to be late.
I’m meeting some classmates: Fall Roundup date.
I arrived at the restaurant a bit before nine.
Large corner table’s empty. That’ll suit us fine.
The waitress brought me coffee and tableware for eight.
“My friends will be here soon. I’ll just wait.”
She touched my steering column. “I admire your scooter.”
I smiled and said, “I admire your hoo (oops!) hair.”
I looked at the crowds that kept coming in.
Was hogging the big table a cardinal sin?
Six people walked toward me. I glanced aside,
Sipped my coffee and tried to hide.
The six passed twice before finding a booth.
I think they were sneering, to tell you the truth.
I looked at my watch: ten after ten.
When were they coming? When? When?
I ordered more coffee to drown my sorrow
And thought of the forget-me-not, my favorite flower.
I glanced around and saw nary a friend.
I smiled at the waitress but it was only pretend.
The waitress gave me a sympathy wink.
“Well, are they coming? What do you think?”
I told her I was leaving. “The coffee is free.”
She patted my arm and started hugging me.
I left but for sure, I will be back.
Free coffee and a hug? I’ll give friends the sack!
I headed home with a caffeine high.
With a smile on my face I gave a big sigh.
I tried to relax but I was too wound up.
Coffee and a hug beat any Fall Roundup!

Byron Pearson's honor at UM

Byron will be honored at "the 50th anniversary of the Russian Tour Band to be held at homecoming Oct.29. During the weekend activities we will each become members of the University of Michigan Hall of Fame. In addition we will be honored on the field in Michigan Stadium at halftime of the homecoming game ( Purdue). A wonderful tribute."
Amen, Byron!

(Take some pictures.)
