News from Barbara Randall

Barbara's husband, Orrin, passed away March 29 from cancer.  His obituary is in the Ann Arbor News issued of April 7.  Our sympathies to her and Orrin's loved ones.

Pat Taylor Wirth obituary

Patricia C. Wirth, age 77, of Munity, Mi died Monday, August 27, 2018 surrounded by her family at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson, MI.  Pat was born November 11, 1940 in Marquette, MI to Jack Taylor and Priscilla (Paulsen) Taylor.  She graduated from Chelsea High School in Chelsea, MI in 1958.  She was married to Jack Wirth on September 14, 1963 in Chelsea, MI, and they moved to Trenary, MI in 1975 to raise a family.  Jack passed away in 1995.

Pat is survived by her sons Jack Jr. and Tony was well as grandsons:  Jack III and AJ and a great-granddaughter Aria.  She will be missed by all her siblings, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A memorial service will be held on November 11th at the Taylor family cemetery at 2 pm on Paulsen Road.

Marti learned from her brother that Pat died recently.  She lived, for a time at least, in Chatham, MI.  If anyone has more information, please let us know.

Since 29 people are coming to the reunion (yeah!), we have the following lunch fixed price menu at the Carlyle Grill next Saturday at 1 pm:

1. chips and homemade salsa
2. salad -  mixed lettuce with cheddar cheese, diced cucumbers, tomatoes, croutons, choice of Greek or ranch dressing
3. choice of Reuben, Veggie Burger, or Old Fashioned Cheese Burger;
4. shoestring fries

The price is $20 (tip is additional)

Dessert (carrot cake with cream cheese frosting) is $3 extra

Drinks are also an additional charge

You will receive an item from the Chelsea Area Historical Society to mark this occasion.  It would be great (although NOT a requirement) if donations could be made to the society.

Plans for 60th Class Reunion --Saturday, August 25th

Notes from planning meeting for CHS Class of 1958 60th Class Reunion.  6.21.18

Present:  Silas Hopkins, Becky Bush, Bob Brown,  Janet & Ron Clark, Peggy Russo, Dave Pastor, Sandy Weber, Jan Bernath

Decisions made about reunion activity:

1. We will gather for drinks and a meal at the Carlyle Grill located at 3660 Jackson Road next to Quality 16 on Saturday, August 25, beginning at 1 pm in the room furthest from the front door.  If we do not meet the $300 minimum charge in order to use the room with no extra charge, Peggy and Dave P will pay the difference. (If we have 15 attendees and each person spends $20, we will meet that minimum.)  The menu includes "starters" from $6 to $12; salads from $8 to $12; steaks from$19 to $34; chicken, fish & pasta from $14 to $21; burgers & sandwiches from $11 to $17--a small salad to accompany entree is $4. Since we will be over six people, an 18% gratuity is added. We will play music from the years 1956 - 1961 subject to okay from venue. We will encourage attendees to bring high school memorabilia to display. We will acknowledge deceased class members with a list of their names and pictures from high school in a display.  Our promotional material will include pictures of our junior prom and New York senior trip. We will request a rsvp by August 10. We will invite contributions to the Museum during the dinner.

2. We will meet at Uptown Coney Island on South Main Street in the covered porch for breakfast on Sunday, August 26, beginning at 10:30 am.

3. Those wishing to visit the Chelsea Area Historical Museum may do so following breakfast on Sunday.

4. Those wishing to attend the Purple Rose may do so on Saturday night, Sunday matinee, or Sunday night subject to securing their own tickets.   Classmates can see play description at PurpleRoseTheatre.org and reserve tickets by calling 734 433 7673

Bob Weber's funeral

Classmates attended Bob's funeral in Owosso

On a very snowy day, Ed, Ron, Sandy, and Jan(et) attended Bob's funeral.

Bob Weber died early in the morning, December 7

Bob died early last Thursday morning, and his service will be Thursday, December 14, at St. Joe's in Owosso at 11 a.m.  Visitation is one hour before the service, and there is a luncheon after the service.

I saw Bob in the late afternoon on December 6 at the assisted living facility in Owosso where he had been staying for awhile.  Bob was alert, seemingly without pain, and  in the lazy-boy chair he occupied almost full time since he went into the facility.  He had a book published by National Geographic titled "The Body" next to him, and he told me he wasn't reading it to find a cure but out of fascination about how the body worked. Bob told me he tought it was quite remarkable that everything evolved out of two cells into a complex organism.

How thankful I am that Ed McDaniels brought him to the class lunch last fall.

Next to him were tributes to Bobby Dylan and the Pope.  Farewell, my dear friend, you carried your values to the end.

Class lunch 9.23.17 brief summary

Donna Dault, Peggy Russo, Becky Bush, Jim Heydlauff, Jim Grau, Dave Pastor, Dave and Jan Knisely, Marti Hause, Bob Weber, Sandy Weber, Ed and Ann McDaniels, Ron and Janet Clark, Silas Hopkins, Gene Shroyer and friend, Ava, and Jan Bernath all found their way (eventually) to the Arctic Breakaway for a late lunch.   Those who indicated they were coming but, for a variety of reasons, did not come were:  Delores F, Bob B, Bill and Sherry S.

Using a map of the high school Alumni Arbor, Sandy showed the group where the tree that was planted for our class--a big thanks to those who contributed!  (It's tagged and near the front walkway for those who want to hunt it down!)

Jan(et) talked about the fact that an anonymous donor will match funds raised for the Museum in 2018 and 2019.  Currently, the Chelsea Area Historical Society is on a land contract with a balloon payment in the not too distant future.  CAHS must raise $25,000 each year to receive the match.  $24,000 won't make it!  Currently, CAHS is having a series of fundraising activities in order to keep the lights on...  Thanks to Silas, Marti, Ron and Janet, Peggy, Bob W, and Sandy for indicating they would contribute money to this effort of a class donation.  The goal is to make contributions that can be made in our class name.  If you are interested, please let Jan know....the more, the merrier!  and, the more, the monier!

In terms of the 60th (yes, it's true) reunion, the group seemed to agree that the Arctic Breakaway (think--ice rink) is a good place to celebrate (now that people can find it).  The Clarks are ready and willing to help with promotional materials, decorations for a theme-based reunion and make NAME TAGS!   Keeping the time of September on a non-Michigan football game is preferred....

Elaine L. Pastor

Elaine Louise Pastor, of Chelsea, Michigan, age 78, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. She was born on October 21, 1938, in Jackson, MI, the daughter of Irvin and Therah (Ross) Fitzpatrick. Elaine had lived in the area since 1959, coming from Jackson, and was a member of the Chelsea First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was involved with the nursery and youth camp. She had worked at McDee for 36 years, retiring in 2007, and was also a volunteer at Chelsea Community Hospital.

On August 23, 1980, she married David John Pastor, and he survives. Also surviving are her children: Cindy (Mike) Horn of Chelsea, Sally Jackson of Chelsea, and Todd (Dawn) Miller of Clinton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Marilyn Fitzpatrick of Massachusetts and Robert “Corky” (Peg) Fitzpatrick of Roscommon. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Thomas Miller, and her son-in-law, Wendell Jackson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017, at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital.
