Bob Weber died early in the morning, December 7
Bob died early last Thursday morning, and his service will be Thursday, December 14, at St. Joe's in Owosso at 11 a.m. Visitation is one hour before the service, and there is a luncheon after the service.
I saw Bob in the late afternoon on December 6 at the assisted living facility in Owosso where he had been staying for awhile. Bob was alert, seemingly without pain, and in the lazy-boy chair he occupied almost full time since he went into the facility. He had a book published by National Geographic titled "The Body" next to him, and he told me he wasn't reading it to find a cure but out of fascination about how the body worked. Bob told me he tought it was quite remarkable that everything evolved out of two cells into a complex organism.
How thankful I am that Ed McDaniels brought him to the class lunch last fall.
Next to him were tributes to Bobby Dylan and the Pope. Farewell, my dear friend, you carried your values to the end.

Class lunch 9.23.17 brief summary
Donna Dault, Peggy Russo, Becky Bush, Jim Heydlauff, Jim Grau, Dave Pastor, Dave and Jan Knisely, Marti Hause, Bob Weber, Sandy Weber, Ed and Ann McDaniels, Ron and Janet Clark, Silas Hopkins, Gene Shroyer and friend, Ava, and Jan Bernath all found their way (eventually) to the Arctic Breakaway for a late lunch. Those who indicated they were coming but, for a variety of reasons, did not come were: Delores F, Bob B, Bill and Sherry S.
Using a map of the high school Alumni Arbor, Sandy showed the group where the tree that was planted for our class--a big thanks to those who contributed! (It's tagged and near the front walkway for those who want to hunt it down!)
Jan(et) talked about the fact that an anonymous donor will match funds raised for the Museum in 2018 and 2019. Currently, the Chelsea Area Historical Society is on a land contract with a balloon payment in the not too distant future. CAHS must raise $25,000 each year to receive the match. $24,000 won't make it! Currently, CAHS is having a series of fundraising activities in order to keep the lights on... Thanks to Silas, Marti, Ron and Janet, Peggy, Bob W, and Sandy for indicating they would contribute money to this effort of a class donation. The goal is to make contributions that can be made in our class name. If you are interested, please let Jan know....the more, the merrier! and, the more, the monier!
In terms of the 60th (yes, it's true) reunion, the group seemed to agree that the Arctic Breakaway (think--ice rink) is a good place to celebrate (now that people can find it). The Clarks are ready and willing to help with promotional materials, decorations for a theme-based reunion and make NAME TAGS! Keeping the time of September on a non-Michigan football game is preferred....
Some pictures follow...and, yes, three people with the name "Janet" were there.

New location for our class lunch but same date and time.
As some of you might already know, Reddeman Farms burned down last week. Sandy and Jan visited the Arctic Breakaway in the Arctic Coliseum Ice Arena at 501 Coliseum Drive (right off Old Manchester Road). We booked the "front room" on the same date--September 23--and same time--2 pm.
There is an elevator in the building that takes you to exactly to the door of the room we have booked on the second floor. We can order off the menu. And, we think this room will be good for conversations and being able to move around to visit. We have the room until 5 pm.
If you have not yet phoned Sandy of your intention to come, please do so: 734 475 8862. At the moment, we believe about 18 people are coming. Hope to see you there!

Class gathering for 2017 lunch!
Hello, CHS Class of '58ers!
We're looking forward to a class gathering on Saturday, September 23, at Reddeman Farms at 555 South Dancer Road--right off Jackson Road. Since they don't open until 2 pm, we think getting together about 2 pm would give us a "happy hour" and late lunch or early dinner! There is no UM football game that weekend, so we don't need to worry about traffic.
Those of us who gathered last year enjoyed a visit to the Chelsea Area Historical Society Museum on Jackson Street across from the Depot. The Society is in a capital campaign in order to help pay down the mortgage on the building. If you're interested in seeing what's underway, go to: chelseahistory.org We would like to make a class donation to this effort, so please keep that in mind. (If you wish, an individual donation could be made on the website.)
Speaking of class efforts, we were able to plant a white pine as a part of the Alumni Arbor Day Project at the current high school in April. The tree is identified with a tag, so it is possible to visit it if you wish.
Please let us know of your intention to attend the class lunch on September 23, your willingness to be a part of the class donation to the Museum, and interest in visiting the class tree.
Staying in touch at this time of our lives is indeed a special opportunity.
Please respond with you intentions to the mail being sent by Bill or by calling Sandy (the permanent class secretary) at: 734 475 8862.
We hope to see you this fall!
Jan(et), Sandy and Bill

A White Pine will be planted in honor of our class
Sandy and I went to the Arbor Club meeting last night and put the money down on a White Pine. This is a very ambitious project and we were happy to be able to participate.
Thanks to Dave K, Ed Mc, Marti, Jim Grau, who added $$ to that donated by Sandy and me.
This will be a community event, sustainable, and well planned. It's more inspiring than I ever imagined!
If you are local and interested in participating on the day of the planting (no, you don't have to dig a hole), let me know. The planting date is May 6 with a back-up date of May 7. I would let you know what time to come to the high school. Our tree will have a tag with the year of our class on it.

CHS Alumni Arbor project....please read and reply
OK...here's the full scoop. We are "registered" as Class of 1958. After going to the sites listed below, here are the really big questions:
1. Do we want to play?
2. If so, who will chip in $? please let me (janbernath@yahoo.com) or Sandy know by the end of February.
3. If you're playing, how much $ are you willing to donate?
That will determine the tree we select in the $30 to $300 range.
4. Does anyone have ideas to contribute to the master plan? (Where's John when you need him?)

It's "CHS Alumni Arbor"
Check out our story on mLive:
More information:
We are estimated that trees will cost $30-300 depending on the type and size that your class chooses. We will email you by the end of March to let you know what type of trees you may choose from for your location. Please talk with your classmates and see if anyone has any ideas to contribute to the master plan for the Alumni Arbor - we are taking ideas from the public through February.

Invitation to plant a tree donated by our class (please read post)
Your thoughts on the invitation below?
"Hi Jan,
"Hi Jan,
My name is Shawn Sinacola-Rodriguez, and I am a teacher at Chelsea High School. Thank you for the information you shared about the history of Chelsea Schools. My students and I are planting an Alumni Arbor on May 6th, and we will be seeking to contact all previously graduated classes of CHS to come plant a tree on that date. I noticed from your email with Bill O'Reilly that you graduated in 1958 and that you maintain a blogspot. Do you have a link that you could share with me for your blogspot? Also, are you in contact with any other graduated classes? Do you have any ideas for the best ways to connect with class leaders?
We have created a Facebook page and survey links to connect with classes, and we will be launching these links via Chelsea Update, mLive, and flyers/signs throughout Chelsea beginning February 1st. I hope that you'll be there on May 6th to represent the class of 1958!
Thanks for considering my questions above and be in touch,
Sincerely,
Shawn and the Alumni Arbor Club Class of 2017"
